ONLINE NEVADA ENCYCLOPEDIA Welcome to the Online Nevada Encyclopedia, a multimedia resource produced by Nevada Humanities that incorporates articles, images, and interactive media to explore the landscape, people, and events that have shaped the Silver State’s politics, economy, and culture. The ONE is a work in progress, with new content, special features, and technologies in development. Please check back often to see the evolution of the project. Sagebrush School Between 1859-1914 there was a loose collective of writers that were both influenced by and wrote about Nevada. These were writers that either lived, worked, or spent their early years in the state during its mining booms. This group was known as the Sagebrush School and was made up of writers such as Mark Twain, Dan De Quille, and Sam Davis. On November 12, 2009, the Sagebrush School was inducted into the Nevada Writers Hall of Fame, an award provided by the Friends of the University Library at the University of Nevada Reno to honor Nevada's finest writers. The ONE is proud to offer an entry by scholar Lawrence Berkove that explores the significance of the Sagebrush School and discusses the characteristics, attitudes, and literary techniques that distinguish their writings. Berkove's article also links to additional ONE entries on writers from the Sagebrush School.
